Fashionistas-Crazy for Coral and Terrific Teal

I might have gone a little e-Bay wild, and I might have bought a few second hand Fashionista dolls to add to my growing collection...maybe 11 of them! Ok, ok, I know that's not mega-crazy. It wasn't even that expensive...but when the package arrived I felt like I had to sneak it away and hide it like I was smuggling crack into the house, not more dolls!

I purchased 2 lots of dolls, and I didn't get to pick and choose who I got. Some of them I was crazy excited for, others were kinda Meh, and other others I really had no interest in but they were coming along for the ride!

Crazy for Coral

Ah, she's cute! Crazy for Coral comes in a very sweet pink and black halter dress. The pink part has a gold pattern on it, and the dress has an asymmetrical hem. She has a pair of gold sandals to finish off her outfit, and they are adorable. But they fall off really, really easily. She's got a petite body. She also has darker skin, I'm guessing she's meant to be latina?
As far as I can tell she uses the new Skipper face mold. It looks quite good on her, and I love the colours they've chosen for her face. The yellow-hazel eyes sparkle and her lips are a pretty neutral pink. I also enjoy her brows!

Now, the hair. Nice colour, goes well with the doll. The curls? Well, they are kind of pretty, but they are not how she is advertised! Also, like some of the other Fashionista dolls, the hair seems rooted poorly, and some of it is easily coming out. There are pieces that are longer than others, and the back is a matter mess that I am afraid to touch for fear of ending up with a partially bald doll. I had seen this doll in person many times before I bought her, and the listing I purchased from showed the doll well, so I knew what I was getting. But if you were buying her blindly online you might get a bit of a shock. The picture below is Mattel's official face shot of her.

It's like Book Hermione vs Movie Hermoine. I actually love her coo-coo curls, so I'm not bothered at all by the difference, but some peeps might be. Also, she seems young to me. Most of the Fashionistas I'd put in their late teens, maybe their early twenties. She's 13, maybe 14 max. It's not the petite body, it's the Skipper face.
As you may know, I can't stand that these dolls don't have names. So for this doll, I'm taking the simple road and calling her Coral. Crazy for Coral aka Coral. I was considering just Cora, but I know this chick named Cora and she really ticks me off, so no.

Terrific Teal
Well, here she is, my first tall doll! Excited to say the least, I've seen them in the stores, but I've been waiting to get my hands on one in person to see how they really look. Also, with the idea that girls will want dolls with similar body shapes to them and people in the world around them, I should have gotten her a long time ago, as I am a tall girl. Ok, to be honest, I'm a mix of the tall and curvy categories at the moment, but they don't sell that doll...yet!

Terrific Teal is a much nicer looking doll in person than I thought she would be. She comes wearing a pink and teal large print plaid type design, it's sparkly and stiff as a board, but I don't have to wear it so it's cute! Then there's the skirt, which doesn't seem to know where to sit on her body:
Exhibit A- Well, that looks stupid.
Exhibit B- Better, but the skirt doesn't fit right.
Much like Zig&Zag, Terrific Teal would have benefitted from a fitted skirt, or an a-line skirt, or a pair of capri pants...not a poor fitting, stupid length skirt.

Lastly, her shoes. Strappy, bubblegum pink, kitten heels. Whenever I see kitten heels I am reminded of an interview I watched between Nicole Kidman and possibly David Letterman. Nicole was just finishing up her divorce with Tom Cruise at the time. Letterman asked Nicole what was going on in her life post divorce, and she coyly replied that she can wear high heels again. The same doesn't go for Teal here. That's right ladies, tall is beautiful, just not TOO tall. Eyeroll!

But maybe I'm being too hard, and some of the other tall dolls get to wear skyscraper heels?

Teal uses the New Teresa/Style Teresa face mold, which is very pretty on this doll. This may be one of the only times you see me write that, as I typically don't like Teresa. Also, unlike Teresa, this doll is clearly meant to be caucasian, with her curly flowing red hair I can't help but picture Irish or Scotish ancestry. Faint pink lips and grey eyes look lovely, and look at those Brooke Sheilds eyebrows! Gotta love 'em!

Much like Coral, Teal's hair is a curly blob mess. Actually, it's better than Corals hair, but it's not as shown by Mattel. I appreciate that Mattel keeps trying with the curly hair though so I won't complain too, too much. Did I mention I also have curly hair? If this chick was a brunette and also a bit meatier she could be me.

Mattel's stock photo, curls are a little more controlled.
Lastly, since she is my first tall doll, here she is in the buff. Looks like a regular doll, but taller and with a square waist and boys hips.

If you are wondering, I'm calling her Brooke.

Both Crazy for Coral and Terrific Teal have the hard plastic bodies of the current Fashionistas. No clicky-clacky knees, limited poses possible.
